Thanks for stopping by my page!
A little bit about me, for starters, I’m Amy. And to be honest, what started all of this is my love for food. I love food. Nope, I don’t prefer salty over sweet, I don’t crave sweets over savory, I love it all! I am a very overweight person, stuck in my little body, so when you look at me and think, “Oh, she must never enjoy what she eats”, you are so wrong! I grew up drinking sweet tea, mountain dews, and eating little Debbie swiss rolls for lunch! TV dinners were my jam, and remember fish sticks? I sure do. One of my first jobs was at a Baskin Robbins/Dunkin Donuts…ice cream and donuts, does it get any better?!? How I avoided type II diabetes, I will never understand. So, this lifestyle followed me into my early 20s, I mean that’s what I grew up on, what else could there be? Yeah, I tried to clean things up a little, started cooking what I thought were healthier meals, but what I did not realize was how little I knew about eating well. It was not until I started my fitness journey, that I would even begin to grasp this concept.
Technically, I’m a Registered Dental Hygienist by day, meaning I took nutrition classes in school and do nutritional counseling with patients and I have a lot of background in how the human body works- sorry guys, I don’t just “scrape gums”, contrary to popular belief. I have since obtained my Precision Nutrition Level 1 certification, my Level 2 CrossFit certification, and done hours of continuing education and research on my own to learn how to be healthy from the inside out. I have done paleo challenges, I have tracked every bit of food I eat, I’ve tried the low carb trend and here is what I have learned: dieting trends are just that, they are trendy. I don’t really believe in putting a label on how you eat and I definitely don’t believe in letting your eating habits define your every moment. I think there are some great ideas within all of the diet trends, but ultimately every person is so very different, and we all process foods differently. So, my goal is to help people simplify this whole debacle. I strive to help people find balance in the daily struggles of eating well and getting the fitness they need…and at the end of the day this is so different for each individual.
So, that is a little bit about me and my philosophy. I am a HUGE advocate of overall health. I love to cook and experiment with different recipes- healthy comfort food is kind of my niche. And I love to share my ideas with everybody else, so keep an eye out on the blog for what I’m cooking up this week!
